Our Purpose:
To monitor, report, and educate on the environmental human impact on estuaries; to build a volunteer base to service our projects; and to create a cooperative effort between our organization and other interested groups and agencies to accomplish this purpose.
Objectives:
Our primary objective is to conduct indicator research into the highs and lows of dissolved oxygen so that scientific analysis will allow viable corrective action to take place wherever deficiencies are found. Because the three steps of 1) indicator research, 2) analysis, and 3) corrective action is a proven method of saving endangered waterways such as Puget Sound and Hood Canal, we will closely follow monitoring protocols as established by the EPA and other environmental agencies.
Since the greatest problem in Puget Sound and Hood Canal waterways is lack of quality conditions for fish habitat, we will concentrate on checking levels of dissolved oxygen and related parameters in Quilcene Bay, Dabob Bay, and Northern Hood Canal. (Hoodsport to Hood’s Head). However, since waters outside of Hood Canal greatly affect Hood Canal itself, as funding allows we will expand our research expeditions to bays along the south and western sides of the Salish Sea. In this way we will achieve a broader view of what is happening in the entire ecosystem of the Puget Sound Estuary and its sub-estuaries.
Through this website we will publish reports of our findings, observations, and documentation of supporting material.
